Project 3
Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User:
Tropical Solitary Haven
For the final project, we are assigned to design a solitary haven at Subang Ria Recreational Park, where the design should be related to the site context. The design should also include spaces for two, me and my sister to work or perform our hobby, a space to discuss, washroom and a resting space. This project suggests the design of architectural spaces to be related to the user’s requirements and site context with the application of architectural principles, materiality, constructibility and the context.
Outcome: 3 A1 landscape drawings including diagrams, site plan (1:250), floor plans, sections and elevations (1:100), key drawings, sectional detail (1:20) and models (1:100)
"In the woods" is a solitary haven created for gardening emphasising on functionality while integrating into the environment. The idea is to create an open space and to achieve harmony between the structure and the natural. The different orientation of each spaces and the concept of hierarchy aims to provide different angles of view and experiences at each different spaces.

Reflection
The workshop certainly helps in achieving the final outcome, especially in corresponding the design to the context. Throughout this project, I have learned a lot from Ms Patma during tutorial where she emphasised the user’s journey to the solitary haven and making the structure unique to the context and the activity, where from follows function. She also challenged me to think creatively in designing this structure.
