GREEN STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING DESIGN
(ARC 61804)
TUTOR: AR AXXU
This module deals with the passive sustainable strategies in architectural design. The focus is on understanding how these strategies can be integrated with various architectural elements to enhance the overall spatial experience within a building. We will be looking into case studies to analyse the application of these strategies and their influence on the quality and experiential aspects of the spaces created.
PROJECT 1
Comparative Case Studies Poster & Booklet
In a group of 5, we are to choose two (2) case studies on the application of passive sustainable design strategies within an architectural project; 1 from tropical climate region and 1 from other climatic region (Arid, Mediterranean, Temperate Continental, Polar). Later, we are tasked with identifying and comparing the passive design strategies we learnt from lecture week 2-7 in both case studies. A detailed analysis of the impact of these passive design strategies on the spatial experience of the chosen project.
Outcome: An A2 infographic poster, A4 portrait booklet (20-25 pages)
PROJECT 2
Passive Green Building Strategies Report
Based on our final architectural studio project, we are to develop passive and active green building strategies, including but not limited to site planning, day lighting, façade design, natural ventilation, strategic landscaping and other renewable energies.
Outcome: A3 Report (min 15 pages)
Reflection
In this module, I have the opportunity to sharpen my skills in analysing the theories and principles of sustainable design strategies. Through the case studies, exploration and site visit, I gain a deeper understanding of how these design strategies can be effectively applied in my architectural projects. I also strongly believe it plays a significant role in shaping my sustainable design approach to future projects.
