IT APPLICATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
(ARC 62004)
TUTOR: TS. AHMAD FAHMI
The focus of this module is about the information Technology (IT) and software applications using Building Information Technology (BIM) as an innovative sustainable design solution. We will be exploring the fundamental concept of BIM and its applications in building design collaboration and coordination. Other tools such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworrk, BIM 360 and insight are also used to develop environmental analyses and building performance simulations to optimise building design and create sustainable solutions.
PROJECT 1
Collaborative BIM Project
Together with 5 other group members, we are required to adopt a collaborative practice with the Quantity Surveyor students in designing a building with the aim to accomplish a sustainable design project delivery. We will learn how to develop building designs using efficient methods of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in a multidisciplinary setting. This project includes a 3-storey academic block and a library renovation in SMS Seri Puteri, Kuala Lumpur.
Outcome: Revit Project Model (RVT 2023 version or older) , A3 Landscape Project Report
PROJECT 2
Building Performance Analysis
In this project, we will conduct a design optimisation exercise with the use of relevant digital tools on the academic block in Project 1. The performance of the design is analysed and we have to propose an optimised building design solution that can enhance the overall performance.
Outcome: A3-size landscape visual report (minimum of 8 pages)
Reflection
It was not an easy module, especially adopting a collaborative with the QS student in Project 1 and learning different new software in Project 2. However, with the lectures and tutorials given by both lecturer every week, I have a clearer understanding of the whole module. I strongly believe the skills I acquired in this module are crucial in the architecture and building industry.
